PRESS STATEMENT PRESENTED BY THE PLATEAU PROGRESSIVE YOUTHS FOR TRANSPARENCY
Ladies and gentlemen of the Press, we greet you all and thank you for accepting our invitation to attend this Press Conference.
Although we planned having it in a larger venue, we had to shelve our initial plan because our security is at stake at this time due to the sensitivity of the matter.
It has come to the attention of this respected group, Plateau Progressive Youths for Transparency that a company based in Plateau state is trying to defraud the state government. This company is Jolex Construction Co. Nigeria Limited.
Our group has been monitoring the activities of this company that has defrauded Plateau state since the days of the Jang administration and we wonder why the Rescue Administration would award a contract to this company that we don’t know where their office is located.
We are fully aware that the state government awarded a contract to this company in question for the construction of the Tudun Wada Mado road. The contract was awarded the sum of N1.3 billion
Despite the fact that Jolex Construction Company Nigeria Limited has been given sixty eight percent (68%) of the contract sum, the Plateau Progressive Youths for Transparency has with utter dismay observed that work on the site is extremely slow.
We can confirm that from the money supposed to be released to this so called construction company, the state government under the leadership of our amiable governor directed that some of it should go to the completion of the Anguldi to Maraban Jema’a road in expectation of our dear President Muhammadu Buhari last year.
It has also come to the notice of this group that Jolex Construction Company Nigeria Limited is being used to fund the rigging of the upcoming local government election in Jos North, knowing fully well that the chances of a Hausa-Fulani candidate may not win the election.
Questions by the people of Plateau for the people of Plateau:
With all the strict supervision by the Ministry of Works and His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong on every capital project, why is it that this site has never been visited or captured in view of the populace?
The global best practice for any contract is that, there is a component that involves community education and this may, as the case applies, compensation and community youths incorporation, but all we see is that Jolex Construction Company Nigeria Limited has jumped all of these, instead it has employed men and women from his ethnic extraction. Again we ask, why?
We are also aware that Jolex Construction Company Nigeria Limited has been given N600 million for compensation to houses that may be affected in the construction but we can say that this company has not given even a dime to anyone. Aga in, why?
Should we continue to have people who are agents of destruction and backwardness upon our dear state plateau?
With these above, we can deduce, without a doubt that this contract was awarded to help in rigging the upcoming local government election especially in Jos North Local Government Area.
We are calling the attention of the Plateau state government and Plateau people to this as our group exists to protect the interests of our dear Plateau.
Viva la Plateau state!
Signed:
Dalyop Dawn Dung
