PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY PLATEAU STATE CHAPTER.
15 JANUARY 2018.
GOVERNOR LALONG'S APOLOGY TO BENUE PEOPLE.
Following the disastrous and shameful misadventure to the Presidential Villa , Abuja last Thursday, January 11, 2018 by our Governor, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, and the backlash that followed, there were spirited, but needless attempts by his media handlers to cover the vomit ( his shameful comments on the painful killings). They came up with all forms of defences, albeit in futility, alleging misrepresentation on the part of the media.
At the weekend, after the failed and pointless attempt to cover the shame of 'dancing naked in the public square', and convince Nigerians to change their minds, Governor Lalong apologised to Governor Samuel Ortom and our beloved brothers and sisters in Benue state over his misadventure. In his words, "I am profusely sorry for my comments".
The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State, while welcoming this move to redeem his battered image, urges him to take some further steps to purge himself of the abominable act of last Thursday.
First, we advise that he assembles a strong team of Plateau people, cutting across all divides, to proceed to Benue state on a condolence and solidarity visit. This is the only way to demonstrate to our brothers and sisters in Benue that he is truly sorry;
Secondly, we demand that, to demonstrate good faith, he should openly apologise to Plateau people for causing them avoidable embarrassment and pains following his disastrous outing and comments at the 'palace' in Abuja where he had gone to impress the 'king'; and
Thirdly, we demand that he publicly condemnes the senseless killings and makes a categorical declaration distancing himself and the people of Plateau State from the proposed 'Cattle Colonies' of Chief Audu Ogbe and his sponsors, having failed to convince our people to embrace the earlier federal government sponsored 'Grazing Reserve' policy.
We wish to use this medium to caution and advise Governor Lalong's media handlers to always consider what is best for the people rather than falling head over heels to impress their boss. The denial of the damage the Abuja misadventure caused the reputation of the Governor and the good people of Plateau State, claiming he was misrepresented, portrays them as people lacking in integrity.
It is our hope that the lessons learnt have been taken to heart, and that our leaders shouldn't take the people for granted.
Thank you,
Sir J T Akans KSM
